My computer is infected with ''Security Toolbar 7.1'', and it is promts:

1. system is infected with trojan-spy.win32@mx; and to download antispam softwares.

2. I am having full updates of norton antivirus... but it is unable to detect this trojan

3. I can not restore my computer in back date also.

4. There is no infrmation about this toolbar even in ''add or remove programme'' in control panel menu..

I am having original windows XP home edition and a licenced copy of norton antivirus.

i dont want to spent any more to remove this ''Security toolbar 7.1''

I figured out how to set up a VPN %26 map a network drive across a LAN(shared router). How can connect remotely to a mapped drive and copy files from it? When i connect with the VPN it shows the connection active on both computers at this point i thought i would be able to see the other computers hard dive and copy files from it. I don't know what to do with the VPN or how to connect with it remotely through my router. The desktop runs w2k and the laptop is xp. In setting up remote access was it nessary to configure an incoming connection on the w2k pc and folder sharing with primission or VPN on the xp pc just to be able to copy files from my home computer? What do i need to do as far as changing the configuration of the remote access from time to time to provide security for my computers Since i my be connecting my computer to the internet at cafe's and hotels? Norton is a resource hog.Try zone alarms free version.It will catch more then Norton and less demanding along with spybot.There is no substituting a good anti virus with a free one.Norton should definitely be free.

Norton will do that....I stopped using it because it slowed my laptop down something awful, especially on boot up. I use McAfee now....it's quick and troublefree.

How can I ''start'' my Windows Security Center? In the Windows Security Center Window it says ''The Security Center is currently unavailble because the ''Security Center'' service has not been started or was stopped. Please close this window, restart the computer (or start the ''Security Center'' Service), and then open the Security Center again.''

I obviously rebooted and it doesnt work, and my Windows Firewall says, when I click it, ''Due to an unidentified problem, Windows cannot display Windows Firewall settings.''

I need help starting, running, making these both work.

Also, only reason why I need these two to work is that they had some settings I need to use my Nintendo USB Wi-Fi, I cannot use it now for some reason and this is the same firewall I used to make the Nintendo USB Wi-Fi to work.

Are you trying to play a video from your hard drive or from the Internet or from the network that your computer is hooked up to.

If it's from the Internet, what site are you trying to play from and what format... avi, mov, quicktime, realplayer, etc...

Try this.

See if you can download the video instead (right click and save target) if it is a file. If it's an HTML extent ion, your out of luck...

Once you download it to your hard drive, download a player called ''VLC''. VLC is considered the most versatile player out there... (download.com or another software share site)

Once you install VLC, just play the file.

It sounds like Vitumonde to me. This nasty bit of adware attaches itself to your Win32 and fools your os into thinking it is just another Windows server. This is missed by most security programs for this reason, and duplicates with every reboot.

To rid yourself of this, run a search for virtumundobegone, then download the killbit software. This will cause a fatal error, but you simply restart your computer and it is clean. Then, go to your device manager to system restore. Uncheck it, then delete all system restore files, as you could well start the whole process over with the next restore operation if Virtumonde is stored there. Then recheck system restore, and install a new check point. After this, go to trendmicro.com and run their Housecall scan. This should clean your pc. Good luck! Btw, you want to open Dr Watson and send the error log file to Microsoft.com. They should analyze this for you and send back a report of findings.

First, some people of questionable sanity create a worm (the bible), then first gets sent out on the local network (friends, family, community, etc.) to infect computers with weak security (lack of education, common sense, self esteem, adolecence, in distress, etc.), corrupt their operating systems (brains) which then cause them to try to infect as many computers as possible (parental influence, missionaries, baptisms, Sunday school, Soup Kitchens, etc.), all with the ultimate goal of complete domination of the Internet (the world).

In Windows XP go into the control panel from the start menu %26 select ''User Accounts.'' Set up an acct that comes up when ur kid uses the PC, %26 password protect the ''administrator'' acct so they can't get in it. There's step-by-step help in ur documentation on the PC.
I totally agree with ADA M. I have Norton Internet Security as well and those are the exact steps.
If you see a white colored shield at the right bottom with a gray check mark on it, press it.

Click on parental controls, activate or deactivate to get into it.

Then follow directions to set up an account.

If your child can access your account through a network, I advise carefully scrutinizing the access with the parental controls which allows you to stop he or she from getting on the web or email ..ect.
If you can't get those to work go to the yahoo website, they have parental control that you can download.

and let it show you what you need to install, but always create a restore point prior to doing anything like this on system.

There is a removal tool on the Symantec website, I also had a bugger of a time removing norton to Install Yahoo's stuff. I ended up online chatting with a symantec rep and they walked me through the steps, you may have to do this if their removal tool doesn't work and don't be surprised if it doesn't!

For information security management after completing your degree try for the CISSP (which needs 3 to 4 yrs of experience).

So join air force, which will definitely fuel your career if you want to go for Information Security management.

Those KB123456 and Q123456 numbers refer to Microsoft Knowledge Base articles. If you go to microsoft.com and plug in that number you can see what they do specifically. They are the security updates for windows as well as other patches and are needed to keep your PC secure. As far as the other programs you can usually uninstall them, however if it were me I would do a google search (I mean yahoo search) to see what they do. If you are running out of hard drive space, you can use a nice utility called ccleaner (2 c's) that will go through your PC and clean up unneeded files, logs, etc. Good luck!

Nope... this is coming from the outside (Internet) and there's nothing you can do about that but protect your self which you already are...

What I did was disable the popup message in option...but that's with Kaspersky Anti-Hacker...and not Systmantec...You'll have to look for that setting yourself.

Sure, reformat your computer and get a better Anti-Virus, get Firefox and quit looking at porn sites, clicking on the ad's and downloading random crap, and you should be set for a long time.
Just delete it and see what happen. You may want to copy it to a floppy or into your email and send to another email. Just keep the file until you sure it was not important. Sometimes a Virus Software mistake good things. This why they quarantine them, so you can put it back if it important and delete later when you sure. I will search and see what it is.

As soon as I found out I had it I did a complete scan of my computer using Norton Internet Security 2008 and that didn't do anything. It's dangerous for your system (critical files can be lost)! Click OK to download the anitspyware program to clean your system!'. Then it gives me the options 'OK' and ''Cancel'. I click cancel because I'm not sure if that's the trojan or not. Is there anyway I can get rid of it (I'm not computer savvy at all). And how much damage could it do (because I'm pretty sure some of them won't cause too much damage). Should I ignore it or do something right away. Technically, a Trojan isn't a virus. It's really a worm, which is way worse.

What it's doing is trying to get you to download it so it can replicate. If your virus protection doesn't immediately delete it, try manually locating it if you can, or upgrading your antivirus. If you have an antispyware program (NOT the one it offers), that could also hunt it down.

Norton is the worst thing you can install. Norton is the worst anti-virus product ever made. Norton is more of a virus and a huge resource hog. It is notoriously bloated and takes forever to perform full systems scans. The software will do more harm to your PC than good and when you try to remove it, it leaves behind over 375 traces in your registry files/folders and subsystem. You have to download their removal tool just to get it off of your system.

It is still VERY important to have anti-virus protection, but are much better off with a free anti-virus product compared to Norton.

If you want a free anti-virus, AVG, Avast! or AntiVir all are better than Norton (install only 1).

OK there some good answers there, but I suspect before you can do any of those, you'll have to be in normal mode. So I might suggest that you reboot in safe mode and run your anti-virus and any Mal-ware scanners that you have first.

I feel its an issue with your memory. Either there are too many programs running in the background and these might not necessarily be visible or the memory card has conked off. Try using the comp in the safe mode for an hr and see if you have the same issues. If you do, then replace the memory bank or add more!!! If not, then you have too many programs loading up along with Windows. Hope this helps...

The first thing to do is launch Task Manager and see what process is draining your computer of all its resources.

Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete and click on the Processes tab.

Scroll down and look out for process that is using a lot of CPU and MEM USAGE.

The do a Google search on the process name to see what it does.

Norton 360 is client software, and therefore will only protect the computers on which it is installed, even if your computer's are networked. If you purchased a 3 user license (check your invoice and packaging) you can install Norton 360 on up to three different machines.

To keep your computers protected, I would recommend that you install Norton 360 on the other computers on your network as well. You should then configure the Norton Personal Firewall feature in Norton 360 to allow all of your networked computers to communicate and share files, etc.

my laptop has been REALLY slow lately. i clean it out with a couple virus things once in a while but that really does nothing. then recently i visited a random website and after that my computer suddenly had a security toolbar 7.1 pop up and randomly i get all these virus warning things pop up that say system alert!

i also try to delete things i dont use anymore but i cannot find where they came from....like i have no idea what to delete. i see they are being used because in the bottom right hand corner a little icon is still on.

Obviously you need to stay in school for a couple more years since brake is spelled break in this situation unless it is a very special computer that has a braking system on it.
You don't break into the schools computers to use myspace. You can google ''web proxy.'' It's sort of a website blanket so you can go into a blocked site by using another site. Some school computers have alot of security, so you may have to try a few in order to get through.

If that doesn't work, something bad may have already gotten onto your machine enough to protect itself by removing administration privileges. Ironically, it may also be keeping CA's software on the machine.

One more thing: anti-malware programs can often do a better job if you run them in Safe Mode. Safe Mode sometimes keeps the malware from protecting itself.
